UST uses the standard weighted GWA formula:

For example, a 1.50 in a 5-unit subject, 1.75 in a 3-unit subject, and 2.00 in another 3-unit subject give 18.75 grade points. Divide 18.75 by 11 total units, and your GWA is 1.70.

But at UST, your GWA is only part of the picture. The university also has other rules for honors that many students do not know about.

Important: The table shows only part of the rules. For Latin honors, UST also requires that no grade on your transcript is below 2.5, and you must also meet the residency rules. Even with a 1.44 GWA, one 2.75 grade can affect your honors. Your faculty registrar will confirm the official requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

UST uses a 1.00 to 5.00 grading scale, where 1.00 is the highest and 3.00 is the lowest passing grade. Grades follow fixed steps like 1.25, 1.50, and 1.75. A 5.00 is a failing grade. For Latin honors, UST also requires that no grade on your transcript falls below 2.5.
A GWA of 1.75 or better qualifies for Cum Laude at UST. For Magna Cum Laude, you need 1.45 or better, and for Summa Cum Laude, 1.20 or better. But your individual UST grade also matters — no subject can fall below 2.5 on your transcript.
